Find Me Up North is a love letter to growing up in Northern Michigan, a short film by a team versed in commercial tourism advertising producing a project about home.

Directed by JohnPaul Morris (Future Kings, Find Me Up North), Quicksand is the next large scale film production from the Practical team. The ‘Bromantic Comedy,’ a film about friendship and a road trip gone wrong. The feature film enters production in September 2019 in Michigan, filming primarily in Traverse City as well as Grand Rapids and the Pictured Rocks area in the Upper Peninsula.

RAY: 21 to 28 years old, male, LEAD. Ray is an indecisive and unemployed college graduate. He's smart, and about to embark on the trip of a lifetime, but his tendency to overthink gets the best of him when he is dumped by the girl he was about to break up.
PAUL: 21 to 28 years old, male, LEAD. Paul is an overconfident college grad and ever the optimist. After finding out his sweet new job is actually an unpaid internship, he leaves his woes behind to go on an awesome road trip with his awesome best friend Ray.
JANET: 40 to 50 years old, female SUPPORTING. Janet is Ray's mother. She is a county Sheriff and tries to serve as a guide to Ray and Paul, if only parents were headed. She does her best to give these two smartphone-dependent boys their independence as they embark on an ill advised road trip.
MARC: 40 to 50 years old, male, SUPPORTING. Marc is Ray's father. He has high expectations, but does his best to ride the line between supporting and enabling grown son during this confusing time.
SANDRA: 40 to 50 years old, female, SUPPORTING. Sandra is Paul's mother. She is involved, a capable mother of 5, and doing a wonderful job of not taking it personally that her oldest son wants to be independent.
RYAN: 40 to 50 years old, male, SUPPORTING. Ryan is Paul's father. He is super supportive and knows Paul and Ray will both land on their feet.. Eventually. He’s not worried. At all.
PAUL’S SIBLING: 5 to 15 years old, male or female, DAY PLAYER. Paul's sibling is loud, phone addicted, and so obviously younger (and cooler) than him.
WARREN BAKER: 45 to 55 years old, male, SUPPORTING. Warren Baker is strict and proud of his children. He, like any good parent, is dedicated to cleaning up their messes.. no matter the cost.
DICK RICHARDS: 35 to 65 years old, male, DAY PLAYER. Dick Richards is a rural minded antiques dealer. He is private, grumpy, and suspicious after years in sales.
WARREN JR: 25 to 35 years old, male, SUPPORTING. Warren Jr is an indecisive criminal who just wants to make his family proud. He does his best to be successful, by legal means or otherwise.
TIMOTHY VANDERBELT: 25 to 35 years old, male, SUPPORTING. Timothy is an overconfident criminal who is sure that his local crimes are a big deal. He tells himself he’d go straight if a good opportunity came along.
MAGGIE: 21 to 28 years old, female, SUPPORTING. Maggie has big dreams for her life. She breaks up with her boyfriend Ray because she can feel that he (and his friend Paul) are holding her back.
ROLES [DAY PLAYER]
CAR OWNER: 15 to 18 years old, male, DAY PLAYER. This young car owner is industrious and a bit of a bumpkin. He spent his summer saving up for a car, his prized possession that won't part from without a fight.
WAITRESS: 45 to 65 years old, female, DAY PLAYER. This waitress is wise but hurried. She keeps the coffee's filled and the life-advice delivered only on request.
PAWN CLERK: 30 to 40 years old, male or female, DAY PLAYER. This pawn clerk is a relaxed hippie out to make a little coin. Stuff comes into the pawn shop, and stuff leaves. In the change, he abides.
HR REP: 25 to 45 years old, male or female, DAY PLAYER. This HR Rep is is face of the status quo, the hands and feet of the system. HR Rep is the first line of defense against unnecessary expense.
MOTEL OWNER: 40 to 70 years old, male, DAY PLAYER. This motel owner is quiet and judgmental. He sees all kinds of people come and go from his motel and has learned to trust his prejudices.
JOSH: 21 to 28 years old, male, DAY PLAYER. Josh is successful and already getting married. He is a major bro to Ray and Paul and has entrusted them with the honor of being co-best men at his wedding.
CLAIRE: 21 to 28 years old, female, DAY PLAYER. Claire is absolute sunshine on earth. She's always had her own thing going on. It's no wonder that Ray has a super big crush on her, and has since 8th grade.
