Future Kings brings us 48 years into the future, where we find a world at war over freshwater. A young man enters the war after making his father a promise that he’ll find his estranged, runaway brother, and convince him to come home. But his brother is on his own mission, one with implications for the entire war. To bring his brother home, he must first follow follow him deeper into a war into the war. And it becomes clear that, if they ever do return, they will not be the same. Future Kings will have an international scope, but will prominently feature Northern Michigan as our characters home, a deep part of the story’s heart.

The 15-minute “concept short” essentially exists as a prologue, with the intention of introducing the world, characters, and securing interest in a feature length continuation of the story. The concept short introduces the characters as young boys and follows them through the events that bring them into the war— the beginning of a much bigger story.
The pursuit from day one was to make something we’d never seen before, to do it in the Great Lakes State, and to do it in a a new way— or an old way— using miniatures and real, in-camera elements exclusively to tell an otherwise unreal story.
Development of the feature began in 2015 and is currently in the final stages as screenwriting and art conclude. Following the completion of the Concept Short Film in October 2018, Future Kings has begun seeking interest to bring the Feature into production. The team includes JohnPaul Morris (Director, Quicksand, Camp Alec, Find Me Up North), Steen Wichmann (Producer, Camp Alec), and Matt Davis (Executive Producer, Founder of Armor Express, inc).
